Appraisers are faced with many professional uncertainties due to this unusual health and economic situation. That’s the topic of the On Point column in Valuation magazine’s latest issue.
The column from Appraisal Institute President Jefferson L. Sherman, MAI, AI-GRS, addresses how appraisers can help themselves professionally, and how to be smart when conducting inspections, to help ensure that both appraisers and the occupants of the properties are kept safe. This column also covers how appraisers can stay proactive in keeping their business stable.
Appraisers can build and protect their businesses by doing the following:
- Get involved at the local and national levels.
- Attend Appraisal Institute events — held virtually for the time being— and get involved with an AI chapter, which is likely conducting virtual events.
- Take advantage of AI’s myriad online education offerings to potentially expand business opportunities.
- Try to network with real estate agents, attorneys, lenders, accountants and others during this time.
