AI Bestows First AI-RRS Designation to non-Designated Member
The Appraisal Institute for the first time has bestowed a residential review designation to a non-Designated Member. Kathy Kocour of Olathe, Kansas, received her AI-RRS designation in June.
Kocour is a review appraiser for UMB Bank in Kansas City, Missouri, where she manages private wealth appraisals. She also is a certified general appraiser, and has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Kocour is a candidate for the Appraisal Institute’s SRA designation.

AI Hosts President’s Council Meeting
The Appraisal Institute on July 18 hosted a President’s Council meeting of real estate valuation profession leaders in Washington, D.C. Key topics discussed included appraisal regulatory modernization, attracting the next generation of appraisers, perceptions of the AI brand among clients and stakeholders, industry innovations and artificial intelligence.
I was joined by President-Elect Jim Murrett, MAI, SRA; Vice President Stephen Wagner, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, Immediate Past President Scott Robinson, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, Chief Executive Officer Fred Grubbe, MBA, CAE; and Director of Government and External Relations Bill Garber. Other attendees included representatives from BBG, Colliers International, Cushman & Wakefield, Ernst & Young, Joseph J. Blake and Associates, LWHA Hospitality Advisors, Situs-RERC and Valbridge Property Advisors.
Appraisal Institute Media Coverage Seen by More Than 1 Billion
Media coverage of the Appraisal Institute and its professionals was potentially read, heard or seen more than 1 billion times in the first half of 2017, the Appraisal Institute announced July 19.
A new video with highlights of the media coverage from January through June 2017 is available on the Appraisal Institute’s YouTube channel.
AI and its individuals appeared in 1,337 stories that ran in 544 unique media venues. The coverage was potentially read, heard or seen 1,057,315,166 times and had a publicity value of $3,270,719, according to a proprietary formula used by a third-party vendor.
