AI Seeks Proposals for 2016 Annual Conference Educational Sessions

AI Seeks Proposals for 2016 Annual Conference Educational Sessions

The Appraisal Institute is seeking proposals by December 31 for panel sessions and presentations for its 2016 Annual Conference. AI is seeking highly skilled speakers who can address issues and topics of interest to the valuation profession. All panels/presentations will be assigned to one or more of the following tracks:

  • Commercial;
  • Residential;
  • General;
  • Institutional Client; and
  • Attorney Client.

AI Board of Directors Approves 2016 Budget

The Appraisal Institute Board of Directors approved the organization’s 2016 budget during its November 19-20 meeting in Chicago, in addition to other actions.

The Board also approved the 2016 Appraisal Institute committee appointments of AI President-Elect J. Scott Robinson, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS.

The Board of Directors also voted to send to 45-Day Notice proposed amendments to Regulation No. 2 to require individuals who become residential candidates on January 1, 2018 or later to pass a residential comprehensive examination.  This requirement currently applies to individuals who become residential candidates on January 1, 2016 or later.

AI Hosts Real Estate Finance Stakeholders Forum

The Appraisal Institute hosted a Real Estate Finance Stakeholders Forum November 17 at its Chicago headquarters in which entities that use appraisal services discussed several key issues facing the valuation profession, including appraisal quality, the need for appraisal regulatory modernization, definition of market value and range of value/forecasting.

AI said it will work on identifying strategies to resolve the key issues in ways that benefit both AI professionals and users of appraisal services.

Participants included Ameris Bank, BMO Harris Bank N.A., Capital One Bank, Chase Bank, HomeStreet Bank, Commerce Bank, The Private Bank, Fifth Third Bank, Financial Control Group, Inc., Friel Valuation Advisors, LLC, Great Realty Advisors, HomeStreet Bank, Parkway Bank & Trust, Sandy Spring Bank, Santander, The Private Bank and Wells Fargo.

AI Member Authors Solar Valuation Study

Sandy Adomatis, SRA, an Appraisal Institute-published author, instructor, course developer and lecturer at national conferences on green valuation, co-authored a study released November 12 by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory that found homes with host-owned solar photovoltaic energy systems are sold at a premium compared to homes without PV systems.

The study – “Appraising Into The Sun: Six-State Solar Home Paired-Sales Analysis” – compared comparable sales of 43 homes in six states: California, Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, Oregon and Pennsylvania.

AI, Building Codes Assistance Project Offer ‘Green’ Appraisal Guidance

The Appraisal Institute and the Building Codes Assistance Project on November 24 released guidance for homebuilders, buyers and lenders related to valuation of green and energy-efficient homes.

 “Appraised Value & Energy Efficiency: Getting It Right” is a two-page document that provides important information for those involved in the purchase or sale of a home that has green or energy-efficient features.

AI Premiers FHA Seminar

The Appraisal Institute on November 18 launched a seminar to help appraisers develop a better understanding of the Federal Housing Administration’s new “FHA Handbook 4000.1.”

The Appraisal Institute’s seven-hour seminar, “FHA Appraising for Valuation Professionals: FHA Single Family Housing Appraisal Requirements,” will provide appraisers all the FHA guidance and requirements needed to complete a mortgage appraisal involving FHA insurance. In addition to the “FHA Handbook 4000.1,” the seminar also will cover the accompanying “Appraisal Report and Data Delivery Guide.”

AI Participates In Key National, Global Industry Events

In keeping with the Appraisal Institute’s commitment to convey its thought leadership to valuation professionals and others, AI representatives attended the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries Fall Conference, November 11-13, in Orlando, Florida; the World Association of Valuation Organization’s Valuation Congress, November 12-13, in Beijing, where the organization presented on appraisal review; and the Appraisal Summit and Expo, November 18-20, in Las Vegas, where AI addressed state AMC laws.

Additionally, AI exhibited at the National Association of Realtors Conference & Expo, November 13-16, in San Diego; and the U. S. Green Building Council’s Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, November 18-19, in Washington, D.C.
