The Appraisal Institute has announced its “Volunteer of Distinction” honorees for February: Hugh B. Bass Sr., MAI, of Region IX (Atlanta Area Chapter) and Karen Goforth, MAI, of Region X (Northwest Florida Chapter and West Coast Florida Chapter).
The Appraisal Institute’s member recognition program honors members for their volunteer service to the Appraisal Institute, to the real estate valuation profession and to their local communities. Each month, the Appraisal Institute recognizes one honoree in each region as a Volunteer of Distinction.
Region IX consists of Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee. Region X consists of Florida, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Bass served as regional representative for the Atlanta Area Chapter from 2009-2010, on the Appraisal Institute’s Chapter Leadership Program Committee since 2009, as chapter president in 2006, vice president in 2005, regional representative in 2005, secretary in 2004, treasurer and Finance Committee chair in 2003, participated in the Appraisal Institute’s Leadership Development & Advisory Council from 2003-2004, as chapter Government Relations Committee chair in 2002, Public Relations Committee chair in 2001, director from 2001-2002 and multiple years as regional director. He became a member of the Appraisal Institute in 1992 and earned his MAI designation that same year.
Goforth serves as the West Coast Chapter’s Education Committee chair (since 2011), Merger Committee member (since 2011) and alternate regional representative. She was the West Coast Chapter’s Nominating Committee chair in 2011, president in 2010, vice president in 2009, secretary in 2008, treasurer and Finance Committee chair in 2007, regional representative from 2006-2009, co-chair of the Joint Region Meeting in 2006 and participated in the Appraisal Institute’s Leadership Development & Advisory Council from 2005-2006. She became a member of the Appraisal Institute in 1984, and earned her MAI designation in 1990.
Appraisal Institute members may nominate members by submitting the nomination form to their chapter’s executive director or president. Each region’s honorees then are chosen by their regional executive director in conjunction with the region’s chair and vice chair.
