Appraisal Institute Honors July Volunteers of Distinction

vod_headertodayThe Appraisal Institute has announced its “Volunteer of Distinction” honorees for July: Robert E. Dietrich, MAI, of Region VII (Southern California Chapter); Glenn Garoon, MAI, of Region VIII (Central Texas and North Texas Chapters) and Andy Sheppard, MAI, of Region IX (Atlanta Area Chapter).

The Appraisal Institute’s member recognition program honors members for their volunteer service to the Appraisal Institute, to the real estate valuation profession and to their local communities. Each month, the Appraisal Institute recognizes one honoree in each region as a Volunteer of Distinction.

Region VII consists of Arizona, Hawaii, Southern California and Southern Nevada. Region VIII consists of New Mexico and Texas. Region IX consists of Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee.

volunteer_5Dietrich serves on the Appraisal Institute Board of Directors (2008, 2010-12), and served as Region VII vice chair 2009-10. He serves as treasurer of the Southern California Chapter (since 2011) and as Finance Committee chair. He served as Education Committee chair of the chapter in 2009, and as a member of the Appraisal Institute’s Leadership Development and Advisory Council from 2006-08. He also has held various leadership positions with the Arizona Chapter, and chaired or co-chaired summits and panels for both the Southern California and Arizona chapters. He became a member of the Appraisal Institute in 1974 and received his MAI designation in 1978.

Garoon serves on the Appraisal Institute’s Government Relations Committee (since 2009). He also serves as treasurer, Finance Committee chair and Government Relations Committee chair (1998-2000, 2003-08, 2010) of the Central Texas Chapter. He served as alternate regional representative of the Central Texas Chapter in 2006 and from 2009-10, and regional representative in 1999 and from 2003-04. He also held several other leadership positions with the Appraisal Institute and the Central Texas Chapter. He became a member of the Appraisal Institute in 1973 and received his MAI designation in 1976.

Sheppard sits on the board of directors for the Atlanta Area chapter, as well as serves on its Nominating Committee; Membership Admissions, Development and Retention Committee; and as a regional representative (since 2011). He was associate guidance chair from 2009-11 and alternate regional representative from 2009-10. He became a member of the Appraisal Institute in 1998 and received his MAI designation in 2007.

Appraisal Institute members may nominate members by submitting the nomination form to their chapter’s executive director or president. Each region’s honorees then are chosen by their regional executive director in conjunction with the region’s chair and vice chair.
