The Appraisal Institute’s latest video features 2021 President Rodman Schley, MAI, SRA, discussing diversity, equity and inclusion in the valuation profession.
The last year has put a greater spotlight on issues of diversity, equity and inclusion. Many stories have come out, and AI understands that these stories raise questions about fairness and equity in real estate and appraisal today. AI is committed to being a part of the solution.
In this video, Schley addresses where things are at right now when it comes to diversity, equity and inclusion, and what is at stake for the profession. As the leading voice of real estate appraisal, AI is taking action.
Schley also addresses how the valuation is profession is not exempt from unconscious bias, noting that it is human and very real for all professions.
While AI continues to make efforts in this important area, the organization understands that the problem will not be solved overnight. This is an ongoing process, and AI is not the only organization that is taking a closer look at the things that are being done.
As the process continues, AI wants to continue to educate the public on its efforts. This video is the first in a multi-part series.
“I am dedicated to remaining transparent about AI’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts,” Schley says in conclusion. “In the upcoming weeks and months, I, and others, will continue the conversation on DE&I and unconscious bias in the valuation profession.”
