The Appraisal Institute is seeking proposals by Dec. 1 ­– just one week away – for presentations at the organization’s 2018 Annual Conference, July 30-Aug. 1, in Nashville, Tennessee. The conference theme is “Setting the Stage for Success.” Attendees of previous AI Annual Conferences said they were particularly interested in these topics:

  • Business best practices
  • New technology and resources
  • Sustainability in real estate
  • Capital markets issues
  • Market analysis
  • International valuation
  • Property rights issues

AI Premieres Education Offerings

The Appraisal Institute unveiled two education offerings this month.

“Practical Applications in Appraising Green Commercial Properties” premiered Nov. 2-3 in Nashville, Tennessee. The two-day course introduces participants to a broad range of valuation problems encountered when appraising green commercial buildings, conventional buildings with green features and conventional buildings in today’s markets that are increasingly influenced by sustainability and green building.

“Solving Land Valuation Puzzles” premiered Nov. 10 in Chicago. The seven-hour seminar offers participants interactive case studies and discussion topics covering highest and best use considerations, land residual analysis, contamination, impacts of tax increment financing on feasibility, condemnation, subdivision analysis, unit of comparison selection and alternatives when inadequate land sales exist.

AI Contributes at Major Industry Events

In keeping with the Appraisal Institute’s commitment to convey its thought leadership to real estate professionals and others, AI Vice President Stephen Wagner, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, attended the National Association of Realtors Conference and Expo, Nov. 3-6, in Chicago. AI also exhibited at this event.

Additionally, President-Elect Jim Murrett, MAI, SRA, represented AI at the International Right of Way Association Congress for Global Infrastructure Real Estate, Nov. 5-7, in Mexico City.

AI also exhibited at the Appraisal Summit & Expo, Nov. 1-3, in Las Vegas and the Greenbuild Conference, Nov. 8-10, in Boston.

AI Plans for Education Opportunities in Panama

Leaders of the Appraisal Institute and La Asociación Panameña de Corredores y Promotores de Bienes Raíces (ACOBIR) met at AI’s Chicago headquarters on Nov. 7 to discuss future Appraisal Institute education programs in Panama.

AI Wins Awards for Magazine, E-newsletter

The Appraisal Institute’s quarterly Valuation magazine received a Platinum Award and AI’s

monthly Residential Update e-newsletter received a Gold Award on Nov. 1 in the annual MarCom Awards competition held by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals. AI has won five awards for five different AI communication products in three contests during 2017.

The MarCom Awards honor excellence in marketing and communication and this year involved more than 6,500 entries from 19 countries. Learn more about the MarCom Awards.
