Deadline Nears for Online Registration

May 24, 2018 by Appraisal Institute Staff

AI_PresMsgA_blue-lgray_430x100 for blog

I’d like to remind you that the registration deadline is fast approaching for AI’s 2018 Annual Conference, July 30-Aug. 1, in Nashville, Tennessee. I hope to see you there!

Deadline Nears for Online Registration

If you’re considering attending the Appraisal Institute’s 2018 Annual Conference, you have just over a month – until July 8 – to register at the lowest available rate.

Alison Levine, a best-selling author and mountain climber focused on leading teams in extreme environments, and Don Gossman, SRA, an appraiser and author who worked with the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s office to help break up a mortgage fraud ring, will be the keynote speakers at the Annual Conference.

Besides informative speakers, you’ll find extensive opportunities for networking, education sessions (with the chance to earn Appraisal Institute and state continuing education credit), an awards ceremony, vendor exhibits and plenty of opportunities to explore Nashville.

Learn more about the AI Annual Conference and register today. Or watch the video.

LDAC Attendees Lobby for Exemptions, Regulatory Modernization

Once again this year, more than 100 Appraisal Institute professionals went to Capitol Hill on May 17 to discuss safety and soundness concerns and urge congressional support for regulatory relief and appraisal modernization. Attendees at AI’s annual Leadership Development and Advisory Council conference, held May 16-18 in Washington, also participated in forums facilitated by discussion leaders on key issues:

  • “Grow the Tent/Residential Outreach.” – Charles Baker, SRA, AI-RRS;
  • “Where are the Best Opportunities for Appraisers in the Future?” – Jeffrey Harris, MAI;
  • “Build and Expand the Professional Community.” – Michael Lamb, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, AI-RRS; and
  • “Growing Outside the Box.” – Jacinto Munoz, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, AI-RRS.

I was joined at LDAC by President-Elect Stephen Wagner, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, and I enjoyed presenting at the opening general session. I’d also like to acknowledge 2018 LDAC Chair Rodman Schley, MAI, SRA, and Vice Chair Steve Henry, MAI, for their efforts organizing the conference.

Rodman Schley Nominated for 2019 AI Vice President

I’d like to congratulate Rodman Schley, MAI, SRA, of Denver, who was nominated for 2019 Appraisal Institute vice president by the AI National Nominating Committee at its May 8-9 meeting in Chicago.

National Nominating Committee Chair Scott Robinson, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, AI-RRS, submitted the committee’s nomination to the AI Board of Directors at its May 10-11 meeting in Chicago. Board members may file petitions for additional nominees in accordance with the Appraisal Institute Bylaws.

The AI Board of Directors is expected to elect the 2019 Appraisal Institute vice president at its Aug. 2-3 meeting in Nashville, Tennessee.

Appraisal Institute Contributes at Major Industry Events

In keeping with the Appraisal Institute’s commitment to convey its thought leadership to real estate professionals and others, I was joined by President-Elect Stephen Wagner, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, at the Association of Appraiser Regulatory Officials (commonly known as AARO) Spring Conference, May 4-6, in Seattle, where I co-presented on “Appraisal Thresholds, Exemptions and Waivers;” and Stephen co-presented on “Looking to the Future of Appraiser Experience – Is It Already Here?”

Additionally, Stephen spoke at the American Bar Association RPTE Spring Symposia, May 10-11, in Orlando, Florida, on “Hot Topics in Estate Appraisals Utilized for Transactions and Litigation.” AI also exhibited at this event.

AI Vice President Jeff Sherman, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, presented at The European Group of Valuers Associations (commonly known as TEGoVA) Spring Meeting, May 17-19, in Estoril, Portugal, on the “Impact of Appraisal Management Companies on the U.S. Valuation Profession.” AI Immediate Past President and Acting CEO Jim Amorin, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, also represented the Appraisal Institute at the event.
