Last Chance to Submit Proposals for 2019 Annual Conference
The Appraisal Institute is seeking proposals by 5 p.m. CST Dec. 3 for presentations at its 2019 Annual Conference, July 22-24, in Denver. The conference theme is “Climbing Even Higher.”

Attendees of previous AI Annual Conferences said they were particularly interested in these topics:

  • Client and user needs.
  • Best practices for business.
  • Appraisal data and technology issues.
  • Sustainability in real estate.
  • Residential practices and issues.
  • Market analysis.
  • International valuation.

Appraisal Institute Encourages FHA to Strengthen HECM Appraisal Program

In its latest effort to serve as the valuation profession’s thought leader, the Appraisal Institute on Nov. 20 submitted a letter to Federal Housing Administration Commissioner Brian Montgomery in response to the FHA’s requirement in certain situations of a second appraisal for its Home Equity Conversion Mortgage program, asking that the agency reevaluate eligibility requirements for placement on the FHA Appraiser Roster.

AI Rejects Proposed Residential Appraisal Threshold Increase

Along with taking action related to the FHA’s HECM appraisal program, AI also strenuously rejects the proposal by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve to raise the threshold at which residential home loans require an appraisal to $400,000 from $250,000.

In its latest publication of top-quality books, the Appraisal Institute on Oct. 30 released “Real Property Valuation in Condemnation,” which reflects the input of more than two dozen AI professionals.

Registration is now open for “Appraisal of Medical Office Buildings,” and “Appraising Automobile Dealerships.” I encourage you to check out these exciting offerings!

“Appraisal of Medical Office Buildings” is a 7-hour online program designed specifically for commercial appraisers who want to branch out into the specialty of medical office building appraisals. Learn more about the program and register.

“Appraising Automobile Dealerships” is a 7-hour online program is intended for appraisers who are experienced in general commercial real estate valuation, and who wish to explore issues unique to automobile dealerships. AI Contributes at Major Industry Events

In keeping with the Appraisal Institute’s commitment to convey its thought leadership to real estate professionals and others, I represented the organization at the NAHB Mortgage Roundtable, Nov. 29-30, in New York.

AI also exhibited at the NAR Annual Conference, Nov. 2-5, in Boston; and the U.S. Green Building Council’s Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, Nov. 14-16, in Chicago.

These events provide an excellent opportunity for AI to enhance its reputation as the valuation profession’s thought leader!
