AI Board Approves Continuing Education Revisions


I’m excited to share some important information about AI’s review designations program, which is a significant milestone in our organization’s history.

AI Selects Names for Review Designations

The Appraisal Institute’s Board of Directors voted October 30 to approve the review designations to be AI-GRS (Appraisal Institute – General Review Specialist) and AI-RRS (Appraisal Institute –Residential Review Specialist), and for the review designation program to
commence January 1, 2014. The AI-GRS and AI-RRS designations will be the Appraisal Institute’s first new designations in more than 20 years.

Beginning in 2014, AI will offer four new courses to address review designations. Review Theory — Residential and Review Theory — Generalare scheduled to be released in first quarter 2014. Review Case Studies — Residential and Review Case Studies — General are scheduled to premiere in July 2014.

Appraisal Institute Seeks to Change Continuing Education Program

AI takes seriously its role as the premier provider of education for the valuation profession, and in that regard is seeking to make an important change to its continuing education program.

AI Sends Proposed Amendments to 45-Day Notice

The Appraisal Institute on October 7 sent proposed amendments to Regulation Nos. 4 and 10 to 45-Day Notice. The proposed amendments concern moving from an hours-based continuing education system to a points-based system. The AI Board of Directors will consider the proposed amendments at its November 21-22 meeting in Chicago.

Appraisal Institute Announces Strategic Initiatives for Profession

The Appraisal Institute announced Oct. 8 three major strategic initiatives that have the potential to fundamentally reshape the global valuation profession.

The Appraisal Institute will:

  • Issue proposed standards of valuation practice that could serve as an alternative for valuation professionals where national or other standards are not required
  • Expand delivery of Appraisal Institute education, becoming more proactive in identifying and pursuing appraisal educational opportunities; and
  • Create a new certification organization to establish a future generation of cross-disciplinary valuation professionals and to enhance their marketability in a competitive job environment.

What’s New in Real Estate Valuation Education

In the organization’s latest video, the Appraisal Institute invited Craig Harrington, SRA, chair of the AI’s Education Committee, to discuss what’s new in AI’s real estate valuation education offerings, which include classroom and online courses, seminars and webinars covering commercial, residential and combined topics.
