As I send my last monthly president’s message to you, I’m very proud to tell you that AI recently announced developments related to one of its three previously announced strategic initiatives.

AI Distributes Exposure Drafts

The Appraisal Institute Board of Directors has directed distribution of exposure drafts of the following documents to Designated Members, Candidates, Practicing Affiliates and Affiliates:

  • Proposed preamble to Appraisal Institute Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice;
  • Proposed Appraisal Institute Standards of Valuation Practice; and
  • Proposed Appraisal Institute Code of Professional Ethics.

View the exposure drafts.

If you have any comments on the exposure drafts, please send them to standardscodeexposure@appraisalinstitute.org. Comments will be compiled for distribution to the Board of Directors and the Professional Standards and Guidance Committee. The deadline for submission of comments is January 12, 2014.

The PSGC will consider the comments received and decide whether to recommend to the Board of Directors any revisions to the exposure drafts. The Board then will consider whether to direct another round of exposure drafts, whether to direct formal 45-Day Notice of these documents, as distributed or revised, or whether to take some other action. Appraisal Institute Continues Progress on Key Initiative

blog_presidentheadersThis month I’m pleased to report that the Appraisal Institute continues to make progress on a key initiative while we look ahead with excitement to next week’s Annual Meeting.

Clearing up Misconceptions

As the Appraisal Institute moves through the Candidate for Designation program enrollment process, some members have expressed misconceptions about the program; here are some clarifications.

  1. No payment of any kind is due when an Associate member enrolls in the Candidate program. The 2013 annual program fee will be billed in November (and due Jan. 1, 2013) as usual.
  2. Even if an Associate member has only one designation requirement remaining, he/she must enroll in the Candidate for Designation program.
  3. Current Associate members must complete the form and choose to either a) opt to enroll in the Candidate program or b) opt not to enroll in the Candidate program and become Practicing Affiliates effective Jan. 1, 2013.

If further clarification is needed, visit the FAQs page, email admissions@appraisalinstitute.org or watch the YouTube videos. [Read more…]
