The Appraisal Institute has announced its “Volunteer of Distinction” honorees for November: Shannon Hansen, MAI, of Region II (Nebraska Chapter); Charles R. Mills, Jr., MAI, SRA, of Region V (Bluegrass Chapter); Robert J. Bovasso, Jr., MAI, of Region VI (Metro New Jersey Chapter); Joyce L. Riggs, MAI, of Region VII (Southern California Chapter); and Nicholas D. Pilz, SRA, of Region X (East Florida Chapter).
The Appraisal Institute’s member recognition program honors members for their volunteer service to the Appraisal Institute, to the real estate valuation profession and to their local communities. Each month, the Appraisal Institute recognizes one honoree in each region as a Volunteer of Distinction.
Region II consists of Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming, as well as Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Canada. Region V consists of Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia. Region VI consists of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. Region VII consists of Arizona, Hawaii, Southern California and Southern Nevada. Region X consists of Florida, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Hansen is president of the Nebraska Chapter. She was vice president in 2011 and treasurer in 2010. She became a member of the Appraisal Institute in 2003 and received her MAI designation in 2008.
Mills serves on the Appraisal Institute’s Board of Directors as the Region V third director. He was Region V vice chair in 2006 and chair in 2007. He has served in numerous positions on many committees for both the Appraisal Institute and the Bluegrass Chapter, most recently the Leadership Development and Training Committee from 2009-2011. He became a member of a predecessor organization to the Appraisal Institute in 1980; he received his SRA designation in 1980, his SRPA designation in 1982, and his MAI designation in 1985.
Bovasso currently serves as Metro New Jersey Chapter Secretary and will serve as Treasurer in 2013. He is also on the board of directors. He became a member of the Appraisal Institute in 1987 and received his MAI designation in 2000.
Riggs was Southern California Chapter president in 2003, vice president in 2002 and secretary in 1998, and she has served on numerous committees. She became a member of the Appraisal Institute in 1991 and received her MAI designation in 1995.
Pilz serves as East Florida Chapter Treasurer and will serve as vice president in 2013. He has been the Region X Government Relations Committee chair since 2011. He was chapter secretary in 2011 and Government Relations Committee chair from 2009-2010. He also served on the Appraisal Institute’s Leadership Development & Advisory Council committee from 2009-2011. He became a member of the Appraisal Institute in 2005 and received his SRA designation in 2010.
Appraisal Institute members may nominate members by submitting the nomination form to their chapter’s executive director or president. Each region’s honorees then are chosen by their regional executive director in conjunction with the region’s chair and vice chair.
